Working in the Facility team at Upgrade Estate is never boring!

How would you describe a job in Facility?

If I had to choose three key words, they would be: challenging, educational, and dynamic. You can make a plan for the day, but often it changes within a few hours. And that’s exactly what makes working in Facility interesting — there’s always something happening, which means you need to stay flexible. That constant variety keeps the job both challenging and engaging.

How would you describe the team atmosphere within the Facility team at Upgrade Estate?

Within our team, we naturally support one another because we work from our strengths. Everyone looks out for each other to see where someone might need a bit of extra help, and we are happy to assist where needed. It creates a positive, supportive environment where collaboration comes naturally.

Recently, for example, a buffer tank overflowed at Backstage Upkot, flooding the basement. That’s the kind of situation you tackle together. It’s when that strong sense of teamwork really shows: we take off our shoes and socks and jump in as a team, using squeegees and mops — often with some music playing in the background to keep the mood light. That way, the problem gets solved much faster.

What gives you satisfaction in your job?

For me, satisfaction comes from helping tenants and solving their problems. A smile or a simple thank you can mean a lot. I also try to help create the best possible student experience — making sure everything is well organised, and that students feel safe and comfortable in their building and surroundings. In that way, you contribute to a memorable student period.
